Request AppointmentGetting a Precise Fit
Our contact lens exams and fittings include corneal topography and a slit lamp exam. These tests help us get the right fit for your contact lenses and assess your compatibility with contact lenses.
Corneal topography provides detailed mapping of your eye’s curvature, while the slit lamp allows us to assess tear break-up time and examine your meibomian glands in infrared mode for a comprehensive evaluation of your eye health.
How Contact Lenses Work
Similar to your glasses, contact lenses correct refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism.
Murray Vision Center, PC also offers a variety of specialty contact lenses, such as scleral lenses, to help with conditions like dry eye and keratoconus. During your exam, we’ll ask about your lifestyle and preferences to help you find the right lenses.
Scleral Contacts & Other Types of Contact Lenses
Contact lenses can fall under 2 categories: soft and rigid gas-permeable (RGP). Specialty lenses like scleral lenses are also sorted into these categories. We offer several lens types to help address various vision issues.
Our team will work with you to determine what types of lenses can help with your current eye care needs.
Scleral Contact Lenses
Scleral lenses are RGP lenses that sit on the sclera (white of your eyes), unlike traditional contacts that rest directly on your cornea. They are wider than traditional lenses, vaulting over the cornea to avoid direct contact. The space between the lens and your eye also contains a fluid reservoir.
These lenses can be helpful for those with keratoconus and dry eyes.
Toric Contact Lenses
Toric contact lenses are specifically designed to correct astigmatism. Unlike regular contact lenses, they have a unique shape that aligns with the curvature of the eye, providing clear and sharp vision.
Multifocal Contact Lenses
Multifocal contact lenses contain multiple vision prescriptions in 1 lens. With multiple prescriptions in a single lens, you can get support for comfortably switching between activities at different distances, such as reading and driving, without changing your contacts.
These contacts are often recommended for those with presbyopia and other refractive errors, like hyperopia or myopia.
Hybrid Contact Lenses
Hybrid contact lenses offer a unique combination of comfort and visual acuity. They have a soft outer skirt and a rigid gas-permeable center, making it possible for them to provide clear vision, with less discomfort.
These lenses can be ideal for people with astigmatism and irregular corneas.
